Located in a quiet residential area of the city of Komatsu, Ishikawa

Kashi Kobo Yodogawa is a sweets shop of cake rolls with eat-in
corners.
The building is planned as an extension of an existing house
with a narrow void space and so naturally it consists of a front retail space
and a back kitchen in the narrow floor planning.
The emphasis of design is a spread in the perpendicular
direction so that customers and staff have a feeling of spaciousness even in a
limited space.
Since in a heavy snow area, the roof shape sloping forward and
backward is derived by preventing snow fall to adjoining land.
High windows in a gap crossed between the different slanted
ceilings of the store and the kitchen create varied atmospheres both in and
outside and the opening under the windows connects each space visually.
All these windows contribute to have a feel for the depth of and
beyond the building.
The asphalt shingle roof on the external wall, which is the same
as the roofing, is chosen not only to avoid dirt by rain but also
expecting the fine patterns will be an icon in monotonous streets of the
residential area.
