In earlier works, the client showed his interest in intentional and original architecture. Therefore, the starting point for the new image of the Olivos branch – the largest of this handcrafted ice cream shop chain- was to design a functional space that optimizes daily work, makes the client feel comfortable and, mainly, serves as spatial logotype for the firm.

In early 2010, we were summoned to develop a new corporate image that included the redesign of the brand itself, the establishment of bases for the company’s new communication and the re-structuring of the image of its three branches. All these works were programmed in different stages.

The proposed design aimed at repositioning the company in a privileged place so as to compete with the first brands and thus collaborate with the company’s quality improvement without losing the values of its family tradition that support it.

With this concept in mind, the interior geometry was developed from simple volumes that define the different spaces according to their use, highlighting the contrast between whites and blacks so as to mark the limits of each area that was redefined according to the new layout developed together with the client.

Thus, the storage area was planned at the rear end, enclosed by a black prism that appears to separate from its limits and contacts with the remaining items of the store by means of lighting LEDs. As an extension of it, there is the customer assistance bar, stretching along from the entrance with pure white interior, made of Silestone, Alucobond and Barrisol. This way, the bar is linked to the storage area and the latter to the service yard –located to the back of the store- creating an excellent work space where each piece of furniture and equipment is planned to the smallest detail regarding its location and operation.
The rest of the store, from the front to the back, was devised for client use and enjoyment, defining three clearly marked areas:

[1]  Selection and purchase: attached to the bar and integrated to it by recessing the prism that forms it.

[2] Table area: placed at the front of the store.

[3] Sofa area: located at the back of the store, closely linked to the garden, with a lower height.

This layout guarantees clarity and order, where the staircase is the only object that disrupts the space with its metal surrounding structure, indicating the existence of another level where the restrooms are found. Vertical partition walls define its location and are made of metal tubes placed with random rotations. The stainless steel staircase banister, embedded in the stone wall, is also noticeable, visible as a result of the backlighting that accompanies it.

On the other hand, general lighting covers the walls and there are LED lights all over highlighting different spots and sectors.

The façade has been devised from two continuous plans: the first one is transparent, in coincidence with the store entrance; and the second one is fully black, rising so as to offer order to the block's appearance, made of Alucobond and separated from the neighboring buildings by means of a lighting effect. collapse
