About me
Studied in Helsinki University of Technology, department of Architecture and in Ecole d'Architecture Paris-Belleville, France. Masters thesis “Kupla –Helsinki Zoo lookout tower, carrying out and documentation of wood studio 2001” attained a lot of international attention. Has worked in architecture offices in Finland, Germany, France and Croatia. Has taught Building Technology and Wood Construction at Helsinki University of Technology. Since 2004 own office Avanto Architects Ltd together with Anu Puustinen after the winning of the 1st prize in an open competition for a cemetery chapel. Since then the scope of works has varied from small scale art projects to urban planning. Several prizes in architectural competitions. Various prizes and grants e.g. State artist grant, Bryggman prize, Gerda and Salomo Wuorio prize for a young architect, Ar+d Emerging Architecture Prize, candidate for Mies van der Rohe Prize, Archiprix 2003 honorary mention. Works have been candidate for Finnish Wood Prize and Finnish concrete prize. Works have been published in more than 100 architectural magazines. Participations in exhibitions in Finland and abroad. Several lectures in European countries. Responsible positions in the architecture students’ guild and at the Association of Finnish Architects. More information: www.avan.to
