About me
Steven Dwyer started at Hammel, Green and Abrahamson (HGA) over 13 years ago, today he is a Senior Project Designer in their Arts, Community and Education Group. For the past three years projects he has led the design on have been recognized with AIA MN Honor Awards. In 2009 he was awarded the AIA MN Young Architects Award and in 2011 he was the recipient of the American Institute of Architects National Young Architects Award. He has been a regular guest critic and adjunct instructor in the GD 2 and 3 Level at the School of Architecture at the University of Minnesota. He has served as a regular committee member of AIA Minnesota’s Committee on Design and its’ publication Architecture Minnesota where he was a founding member of the magazine’s “videotect” competition, an outreach mechanism intended to engage the larger public on the importance of design dialogue and commentary in our communities. Steven originally studied music performance and played professionally before beginning his studies in architecture. Still active musically, this background continues to influence his design philosophies. He thrives on architecture’s daily challenges that often lead to inspiring solutions. “I work the most successfully with constraints because they inherently help you think more creatively,” he says. “I look for team members who likewise look beyond a program document to inspire a design in a way a client wouldn’t have thought possible.”
