About SHoP Architects
Located in Lower Manhattan, SHoP was founded in 1996 by five principals: Christopher Sharples, Coren Sharples, William Sharples, Kimberly Holden, and Gregg Pasquarelli. The practice has grown over the past sixteen years to an office of ninety. In 2007 we formed a sister firm, SHoP Construction, managed by our sixth Principal, Jonathan Mallie; and in 2012, we welcomed our seventh Principal, Vishaan Chakrabarti, Director of CURE., the Center for Urban Real Estate, at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, and former Manhattan Director for the New York Department of City Planning.
Our educational and professional experience encompasses architecture, fine arts, structural engineering, finance, and business management. We work on many project types, from multi-story housing to academic buildings to master plans. We are currently working on numerous projects totaling $2 billion around the world, and we’re having a lot of fun doing it. SHoP has won numerous awards, including the 2013 NY AIA’s highest award, the Honor Award, 2009 National Design Award for Architecture Design by Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. SHoP’s work has been published and exhibited internationally, and is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
Our range of services includes Architecture, Interior Design and Planning. We work closely with SHoP Construction, which extends our knowledge base and capacity for construction management, BIM/VDC and building envelope consulting.
