Mission
BOFFO Building Fashion will showcase design installations that push the
limits of temporary architecture and retail spaces through collaborations of
fashion and architecture. Each will reflect the fashion brand?s image
through expressive voluminous forms engaging interior space.
The participants are asked to collaborate and create a space that exemplifies
the aesthetic of a fashion designer while progressing the boundaries of
architecture in a retail context. The installations should speak to the
worlds of fashion and architecture while deploying a sensory experience
engaging the public of New York City.

57 Walker street,, New York City, NY; 1800 square foot storefront in
Tribeca 19th century cast-iron building.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should submit their proposals to BOFFO via email, with subject
heading Building Fashion Competition, to competition@boffo-ny.org, with
the following items attached in 1 (one) .pdf file Containing:
- Firm Name, Participants, Firm Location and a brief (500 or fewer words) description of the proposal. Be sure to address issues of materiality and build-ability. (5MB maximum)
- Preliminary budget proposal that allocates the $20,000 stipend and a work proposal that explains building materials and schedule, transportation and lodging (if you don't live in NYC), labor (paid labor, friends, etc.), and timing (applicants are encouraged to build off-site, leaving the 6 day period only for installation)
- Image files of renderings sections and plans are strongly suggested. Although only one sketch is required, applicants are encouraged to submit as many sketches as necessary to describe their vision.
- Must upload a firm profile to architizer. Past work will play a large role in the selection process, for we must be certain that winners can carry out their proposed vision.
- Donation is emphasized!
- Specificity - Entrants can submit up to one proposal per fashion designer. We encourage entrants to create unique design proposal per fashion designer, for they are all very different. If entrants decide to submit the same design proposal for all designers, they are required to submit five times with proper titling information for each fashion designer.
- If multiple submissions are given, entrants must rank in order of preference which fashion designer they prefer to work with 1-5, 1 being the first choice.
- 3-5 entrants will be selected by the Jury and presented to the Fashion Designer, Fashion Designer makes the final decision.

Nicola Formichetti - Installation dates 9/1/2011 - 9/14/2011
Nicola Formichetti is the creative force behind some of the world's most influential brands, publications, and individuals. As the Fashion Director to Lady Gaga and the nucleus to Haus of Gaga, Nicola has collaborated with her on some of the most memorable imagery, red carpet creations, performances, and moments in recent pop culture history. For the Fall/Winter 2011 season, Nicola debuted his first mens and womenswear collections as the Creative Director of Mugler - where he also showcased his first fashion film for the atelier. Nicola serves as both Stylist and Creative Director to the uber-cool Japanese mega brand, Uniqlo, and as a Fashion Editor for V Magazine and V Man. He's also the Fashion Director for Vogue Hommes Japan, where he oversees everything from production to styling - including the magazine's first iPad application. Amongst his many accomplishments, in December 2010, Nicola was awarded the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator by the British Fashion Council.

Irene Neuwirth - Installation dates 9/22/2011 - 10/5/2011
Irene Neuwirth is an independent, fine jewelry company based in Los Angeles. Founded in 2003 by designer Irene Neuwirth, the company has emerged as a leading jewelry brand in the US, recognized by its uniquely modern and sophisticated designs. Irene's collections are widely anticipated season to season by a fashion-forward and discriminating clientele, who have come to expect a line that delivers a precise balance between timeless, collectable jewelry and the ultimate statement in modern luxury. The jewelry is worn by some of the most beautiful women in the world, including Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, and Reese Witherspoon. In 2006, Irene was the recipient of the Town & Country Couture Design Editors' Choice Award at the Couture Jewelry Collection & Conference. In 2008, Irene was a finalist for the coveted CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund, the pre-eminent honor for young American fashion designers. In 2009, she became a member of the CFDA.

Patrik Ervell - 10/13/2011 - 10/26/2011
Patrik Ervell debuted in 2006 at the store Opening Ceremony in New York. Ervell is noted for using innovative and unusual fabrics including gold foil, vintage parachutes, fabrics died with oxidized iron and copper, handmade rubber raincoats, horsehair, and most recently splash-dyed silks. His designs are characterized as utilitarian, minimal and elegant. Ervell was selected in 2007 as a winner of the Ecco Domani Award for Menswear. Since then, Patrik has been nominated three times for the CFDA's Swarovski Award for Menswear - in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Patrik was also the runner up of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award in 2009. In 2011 he was nominated for CFDA Best Menswear Designer of the Year. PATRIK ERVELL is carried world wide at stores such as Barney's, Opening Ceremony, Harvey Nichols, Fred Segal and many more. The Lake and Stars - 11/3/2011 - 11/16/2011
The Lake and Stars is a lingerie collection designed by Maayan Zilberman and Nikki Dekker. Maayan and Nikki launched The Lake & Stars after meeting in New York City in 2007. Having designed previously at mass and boutique brands respectively, together they sought to create a collection that would bridge the gap between special occasion and everyday lingerie. Serving as a counterpart to their ready-to-wear designer contemporaries, the brand would be inclusive, friendly, and lighthearted- designer lingerie meant to be worn everyday, as a statement of personal style. They are the recent recipients of the 2011 Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award for Womenswear (a first for any lingerie label), and designed costumes in collaboration with Zaldy for Britney Spears' 2011 tour. The line was made famous for its prominent appearances on Sarah Jessica Parker in the Sex and the City movie, where her character, Carrie, wore lingerie pieces as crossover RTW looks.

Ohne Titel - Installation dates 12/1/2011 - 12/14/2011
Ohne Titel is a women's collection designed by Alexa Adams and Flora Gill. The designers met in 1999 while attending the Parson's School of Design. After graduating they separately went on to work for established labels such as Helmut Lang, Cynthia Steffe and Vivienne Tam. In 2005, the two reunited to work for Karl Lagerfeld. In September 2006, Alexa and Flora founded the Ohne Titel brand. The brand pairs architectural shape, soft draping and specialty knits with a keen attention to detail in fit and finish. In just four years Ohne Titel have held such honors as the 2009 Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award, a top 10 finisher for the 2009 CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund Award, a 2009 Swiss Textiles Award nominee.
