London’s financial center is getting a few new outfits in the form of futuristic towers popping up around town. The Guardian UK has a slideshow, including one dubbed “The Cheesegrater” designed by Richard Rodgers and the One New Change complex by Jean Nouvel, pictured above. [via The Guardian UK]
NIO Architecten has been announced as a finalist in the 2010 Dutch Design Awards for its apocalyptic bridge over the Amstel-Drecht Canal. Though some relate the structure to a “Jedi Starfighter collided with a praying mantis, spawning some freak giant robot,” you have to admire the architects’ commitment to superceding the straight-laced, civic engineering of ho-hum bridges across the world. Apple: if it ain’t broke, why fix it? (Interesting ethos for a brand so committed to tweaking its products.) Want to live inside a CB2 catalogue? If cookie-cutter Modernism is your thing, may we direct you to this “award-winning” $1.69 million home for sale in the Bucktown area of Chicago. It was literally featured in a CB2 campaign. [via Huffington Post]
On the other end of the design (and color) spectrum is an architectural photography exhibition documenting the oeuvre of Pedro Gadanho at the Lisbon Architecture Triennale. Photographs of Gadanho’s interior design work include the 2006 Ellipse Foundation building. Preview below. [via A/N Blog]
