This latest “Guess the Building” has it all — guy model, girl model, generous glazing, swimming pool. It’s all packed tidily in one small frame, which also works perfectly for a purposes. There aren’t many dead giveaways here, except that the house is probably perched on the side of a cliff overlooking an urban formation of sorts. There’s that swimming pool and elegant mid-century design details, too, suggesting that this might be Los Angeles. But the rest is up to you to figure out! Tell us what you think in the comments. (P.S. Is that a toilet (or trash can?) in the background?)

Moby is well known for his interest in architecture, particularly LA architecture (ever checked out his awesome blog?). To show his love, the acclaimed musician—and Architizer A+ Awards juror!—stars in a new 3-minute video promoting Getty’s “Pacific Standard Time Presents: Modern Architecture in LA,” an extensive celebration of the city’s architectural legacy. The initiative features 17 partners, 11 exhibitions, and a mile-long list of events.
Wearing his signature thick frames, which he began sporting decades before nerd glasses went mainstream, Moby crafts a compelling argument—or rather, a love ballad—for embracing the city’s complexities. “LA is paradoxical. LA is in a state of flux. LA is ugly. LA is beautiful,” he says. “To sum it all up, LA is mind-numbingly complicated.” Read more!

If all goes to plan, we may even see the world’s tallest skyscraper be built in just in time for the launch of Breaking Bad season 5.5 (coming March 2013). Click on through for our pick for the top architecture to watch this year.

Traffic is Public Enemy #1 in Los Angeles, probably followed by smoggy skies. Thankfully, local sculptor Stephen Glassman has created a gorgeous solution to both issues with his bamboo billboard! Named “Urban Air,” Glassman’s award-winning project trades a traditional billboard for a suspended bamboo garden, complete with pod misters that not only water the plants but create a neat cloud effect. The bamboo billboard brightens up the highway while also helping to clean LA’s notorious smoggy air. Read more!

It seems like a no-brainer, but all design is first and foremost based on gravity. The curve of a chair leg, the pitch of a roof, the profile of a mullion — all of these things are shaped, almost unconsciously, according the orientation of our bodies to the earth. Take gravity away, and you’re designing in a void, literally.
So, what does furniture without gravity look like?
A group of Silver Lake designers found out:

Dwell brings architecture to the people: we credit them for enlightening the average man-or-woman-on-the-street about sod roofs, for example. Since democratization-of-design is also our goal, our ongoing collab with them — the Architizer Design Clinic, which brings together clients and architects for free, no-obligation design consults– seems only natural!
Last year, over sixty clients were seen by our LA-based designers as part of Dwell on Design. And on June 24-26th, we’re doing it again!
Got a design malady? We’re looking for patients requiring architectural Rx’s. Click through for sign-up info!

Domus produced an amazingly beautiful video of Juergen Mayer H.’s Metropol Parasol in Seville. Somehow, it makes all the difference to see the project on film, rather than in still shots. [via Domus]
