Our friends over at Audi (an Architizer A+ Awards sponsor) have teamed up with Marvel Comics to launch a pretty awesome contest. “Steer the Story” invites comic-book fans to draw the final panel of a new Iron Man installation, on steerthestory.com, featuring superhero Tony Stark driving his, you guessed it, sleek new Audi. (Danger and mayhem ensue, naturally.) Participants who submit their own artwork will have their name featured in the final digital-download edition of the “Steer the Story” comic, with US participants getting a chance to win a signed drawing—as well as a trip to Comic Con in San Diego to have their art reviewed by a Marvel editor.
Anyway, we know plenty of you architects would be amazing at this. After all, Bjarke Ingels wrote his own (pretty snazzy) comic book!
So, get drawing, you guys! And go to steerthestory.com for more info.

Only a GIF can truly capture the most captivating moments from Design Miami. That’s why we’ve made five! Above is Booo’s Surface Tension Lamp (by FRONT), a light fixture that blows a continuous stream of incandescent bubbles which stopped visitors in their tracks and created a permanently hypnotized crowd surrounding the booth. Though almost no Design Miami-goer could look past Snarkitecture’s monolithic Drift pavilion, those who did were rewarded with leather-wrapped trees, 1 million Swarovski crystals, (purposely) broken furniture and more. We’ve rounded up our 10 favorite things we saw during the crazy, party-filled week. So click through to see our top picks, and don’t forget to share your favorites in the comments!

This is what the transportation system in America’s eastern corridor could look like come 2030. Boston-based Höweler + Yoon Architecture has won the €100,000 Audi Urban Future Award for the ambitious scheme: “a reimagination of the highway as the ‘Shareway’ that unifies the I-95 corridor between Boston and Washington D.C. into a megaregion called ‘Boswash,’” reports Josh Rubin at Cool Hunting. Audi chose the design based on its feasibility. We like what we see! Read more.

‘Beyond the Street‘
By 2030, New York City is projected to be home to 9.1 million inhabitants. Given the rigidities of the city’s natural and built topographies, New York will have to undergo a hyper-densification to accommodate its growing populace. But what’s to happen when the existing networks of infrastructure and housing have reached their maximum capacity? “After the Street“, an ‘Experiments in Motion‘ studio sponsored by Columbia University GSAPP and Audi of America, charged eight students to develop an answer to this very problem. Recent grads Mengyi Fan and Marc Moukarzel responded by looking to the street to find the city’s great “unexploited building space”–where they think the next step in New York’s (inward) expansion will unfold. Day 14
12 PM. I made it! After two weeks of travel, seven modes of travel, and 4,000 miles, I’m finally in San Francisco! I’m too overjoyed to write, but stay tuned for my concluding post! I’ll have collected myself by then to compose some concluding thoughts and insights into what the heck I’ve been doing the last 14 days.

Day 11
10:30 PM. Just got to Portland. First impression? Fun! And lots and lots of bikes. I’ll explore tomorrow, but already I know I can’t stay too long. I have a little over two days till I have to be in San Francisco, and while that may sound like enough time, I’ve learned that a little planning doesn’t hurt. At least when it comes to finding a place to sleep. Continue.

Day 7
12 AM. Lost in theBadlands. We must have made a wrong turn awhile back, and now we’re somewhere in the Black Hills. With no phone reception. I’m kind of freaking out because I may lose my stayover tonight if I can’t get into contact with my friends. It’s dark, quiet, and more than a little scary. I’ve been up since 3:30 AM–I’m too tired for this!

Marina City
Day 5
1 PM. I’m about to leave Chicago after just 21 hours being here. I’m now more or less 1/3 of the way to San Francisco, so Chicago was a memorable, even important pit-stop. I spent most of my day walking, exploring the city’s architecture and, most important, trying to find a place to sleep. Continue.

“That’s where I B @ Cloud Gate”
10:00 AM. It’s Saturday morning, and I’m standing in front of the ‘Bean’ at Millennium Park in Chicago. It’s been an eventful three or so days, to say the least, and I’m only now figuring out how I got here. I’m sure they’ll be plenty to report from the Windy City, but that’s for a later post (keep your eyes peeled). For now, though, here’s how I traveled over 1,000 miles on no money or planned transport in just 3 days. Continue.
