The Glitch Cabinet, Not The “Wardrobe Malfunction” You’re (Still!?) Thinking Of
March 18, 2013
Yes, people are still riding the “new aesthetic” design wave. (Example: this NES coffee table) Granted, if half that work were as skillfully crafted, if not much more conceptually developed, as designer Ferruccio Laviani‘s “Good Vibrations” armoire, we’d be game for more of this kind of thing. The cabinet — or “storage unit,” as Laviani puts it — was produced for furniture company Fratelli Boffi for the 2013 Salone del Mobile, which kicks off April 9. The design, as you can see, materializes in CNC-carved oak a digital glitch — what happens when a photo doesn’t properly load on your browser, resulting in a schizoid, lawn-mowered image. The effect is stunning, though side and rear views of the object are necessary to fully appreciate the design and execution.
