We’re all for architecture with a soul—and fortunately, the do-good design movement continues to grow. Two big events are debuting this year: In March, the University of Minnesota will host the first-ever Public Interest Design Week, and in June, two experts will lead “Design Ignites Change: Social Impact Workshop” in southwest France. Public Interest Design Week, scheduled for March 19-24, will feature an impressive lineup of lectures, workshops, and film screenings. Highlights include: a keynote presentation by Michael Kimmelman, architecture critic for the New York Times; a graphic design hackathon; and a design storytelling workshop. Attendees can also sign up for the Public Interest Design Institute (PIDI) training program. Costs for individual activities range from free to $350.

The event is presented by University of Minnesota’s College of Design in association with numerous sponsors, including Autodesk. Our very own A+ Awards juror, John Cary, helped organized the undertaking. Click here for info!

The “Design Ignites Change” workshop, scheduled for June 16-23, will be led by Mark Randall, founder of Worldstudio, and Shana Dressler, founder of Social Innovators Collective. The weeklong event will take place at Domaine de Boisbuchet, a picturesque country estate associated with the Vitra Museum.

The idea is to bring together architecture and design professionals committed to making a positive impact on the world—and to offer them an educational experience in a gorgeous, relaxed setting. Sounds lovely, right? The only catch is the fee: $2,250, flight not included. More info can be found here.
