Project: Songwon Art Space

Architect: Mass Studies

Location: Seoul, South Korea

The design of this new art space in Buk-Chon, a suburban district of Seoul, was largely predetermined by a number of restrictions imposed by the site. The structure is situated on a small plot of land where two sloping streets meet at a sharp intersection, thus necessitating the building’s compact form. A nearby cultural heritage site conditioned the building’s elevation, which had to be angled so as to preserve sight lines. Despite its small scale, the gallery interiors are articulated to accommodate several different activities. Read more about this project in the Architizer database.
