As any seasoned traveler can tell you, finding a pharmacy while abroad can be a challenge, and that’s putting it mildly. Unless, that is, you’re in Vila Real in Portugal, where you won’t have any trouble finding the Lordelo Pharmacy. Designed by José Carlos Cruz Arquitecto, the oval-shaped building is branded with an glowing green pharmacy symbol so big you can’t miss it. Read more.

Clad in dark corrugated aluminum without any windows or openings to the exterior, the two-story pharmacy relies on the bright green illumination of the pharmacy symbol to establish an easily recognizable identity. Customers enter through the main entrance and into a sterile, antiseptic space, lined with shelves of drugs, vitamins, and supplements. The interior creates a stark contrast with the exterior of the building, all the more emphasized by the colorless displays and sleek finishes. In addition to the store, the building also houses a laboratory for compounding the pharmacy, creating a one-stop shop for shoppers and staff.
