Don’t you just wish sometimes you could float out of the office unnoticed? Czech artist Michal Trpak has created a beautiful yet unnerving installation inside the European Business Center in Prague that resembles just that. “Slight Uncertainty” is a collection of concrete-looking figures, dressed in suits and carrying briefcases, dangling from the ceiling by colorful umbrellas. The figures look somber, but the canopy of umbrellas create a beautiful dance of color along the high ceilings of the building, reflecting that timeless love/hate work relationship universally shared around the world. The sculptures all float inside a very narrow and tall area of the building. Each piece is made of polyester and painted with a concrete shade to give off the stone, cold tone. The figures appear to be in a strange limbo, either attempting to escape the office or strategically “dropping in” to work.
Regardless of these figures’ narratives, the piece shows off the sky-high ceiling of the EBC building, and decorates the otherwise drab hallway with a fan of colorful umbrella sculptures.
