Animated Street Art That Jumps Off The Wall
December 12, 2012
British artist INSA has animated his street art with … GIFS! That’s right, INSA paints a wall, takes a picture, repaints it, takes another photo, and so on to create his trippy, fun GIF-ITI (get it?). “Hollywood Dooom,”his latest piece with artist Stanley Donwood in Los Angeles, was commissioned by XL Recordings to celebrate the latest album by Atoms for Peace, the supergroup that includes Thom Yorke and Flea. INSA and Donwood repainted the XL Recordings building four times to achieve this awesome effect, which, though cool-looking in person, only really comes to life online. Read more!
The mural depicts an apocalyptic LA besieged by floods and fireballs (just in time for the end of the world, right?). But outside of the cheeky content, INSA’s work is so outrageous because it refutes the idea of needing to see a work of art in person to appreciate it.
