Building Of The Day: A Moody, Withholding House By Tham & Videgård Arkitekter
December 3, 2012
Building: House K: Stocksund
Architect: Tham & Videgård Arkitekter
Location: Stocksund, Sweden
Why We Liked This:
One doesn’t usually describe a house as “uncompromising”; the opposite is true, or at least we hope that’s the case. Home is warm, familiar, and probably most important, forgiving. But House K isn’t your typical home. With its heavy platonic form, dark black cladding and general bunker-like appearance, this isn’t the type of house you’d want your 3 year-old to be doodling in class. (On second thought, that’d be amazing!) The outer walls—stained plywood panels arranged in rhythmic pattern that travels down the length of the facades—of the structure offer few clues as to the interior organization of the house, though the randomly spaced and sized windows provide glimpses to the all-white living spaces within.
