MAD Dreams Up Elevated City In China’s Huangshan Mountains

As Chinese cities become more and more dense, designers like MAD Architects are accommodating the masses by creating eco-friendly, socially minded mini-villages. MAD’s Huangshan Mountain Village, located in the Anhui Province in central China, is one such development. This cluster of wavy, sloped buildings resembles a peaceful waterfall among the hills along Taiping Lake. Complete with more than 700 apartments, a hotel, and plenty of public space, the Huangshan Mountain Village will be a bustling new hub with a special connection to nature. Read more!

The Huangshan Mountains are a world renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site. Artists and travelers alike have spent hundreds of years braving tumultuous terrain in order to take in the breathtaking views of the gorgeous lakeside hills.

The new development sinks into the lush landscape; the buildings’ cool white color blends right into the low-lying morning clouds. Residents and visitors have ample opportunity to enjoy their surroundings, with countless balconies and high walkways that connect each building. Even apartment interiors are built with local materials, echoing the nature outside each wall.
