Zaha Hadid’s Galaxy SOHO Seen From The City: Photographs By Hufton + Crow

All images by Hufton + Crow
Zaha Hadid’s newly opened Galaxy SOHO in Beijing is a delightful exercise in curve and elegance. With sinuous canyons that wrap around and between one another, Galaxy SOHO defines an interior world of sci-fi glory and embodied flow; but how does it relate to its urban surroundings?
Crouched among the narrow alleys of Beijing’s hutongs, the project appears as a series of gleaming lumps rising above electricity poles and wires in Hufton + Crow‘s photos from the surrounding urban context. From urban plazas the project seems rather self-referential and closed off from easy access, though the images from the opening show the interior walkways crowded with hundreds of people. Check out the photos to judge for yourself.
