Brad Pitt, Furniture Designer?

November 6, 2012

Oscar-nominated actor, father, humanitarian, heartthrob: Brad Pitt certainly has his hands full. But that hasn’t stopped the charismatic celebrity from adding another title to his ever-growing resume: furniture designer. The latest issue of Architectural Digest has all the deets on Pitt’s new venture: a series of tables, chairs, and even bathtubs done in collaboration with Frank Pollaro.

Pitt’s infatuation with architecture dates back to his time at the University of Missouri, where he first discovered the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. “I found Wright in college, when looking for a lazy two-point credit to get out of French,” the actor tells  Architectural Digest. “It forever changed my life.” However, it wasn’t until Pitt met furniture-maker Pollaro that he was inspired to bring his sketches and doodles to life. The two men reportedly met for hours at a time, deciding which designs to produce and nailing down the specifics of the line.

Pollaro and his New Jersey-based firm are known for their flawless reproductions of Art Deco furnishings, a definite benefit considering the star of Pitt’s collection is the Deco-inspired bed. The limited-edition piece (only nine will be made) features a hardwood frame, a curved headboard, a cantilevered bench, exposed nickel trusses, and side tables with silk-under-glass tops. Basically it’s the all-you-can-eat buffet of beds!

The collection, whose style appears disjointed at times, will be unveiled at a private exhibition in New York next week (register at pollaro.com for details) and will initially be available in limited numbered editions, completely customizable and each signed by both Pitt and Pollaro. While Pollaro has described the prices as being “up there, even north of that,” he has said that the collection may eventually be adapted for mass production.
