Play StreetPong While Waiting To Cross The Road!
November 6, 2012
We all need a little more fun in our lives, right? Enter StreetPong, a game conceived by Sandro Engel and Holger Michel, students at the German university HAWK, in Hildesheim. The duo have retrofitted a crosswalk signaler with a touch screen that allows you to push a button a send a fictional ball across the street. Presumably, there’s an opponent on the other end, waiting to send that ball right back to you. The game—a possible contender for an A+ Mobility Award?—also doubles as a countdown to inform you when it’s safe to cross the road. Read more!
Your finger controls where the ball moves. Note the score: 4 to 1.
The touch screen grows increasingly red as the game is ending, signaling that it’s time to cross the street.
The game is based on Atari’s Pong, one of the first video games. We’re all for integrating retro video games into the urban landscape—well, perhaps not Frogger.
