A Bike Ride In The Sky
October 18, 2012
Soaring above traffic never felt so good! Exterior Architecture wants to put London’s cyclists up in the air with its latest concept, the Skycycle. Inspired by New York City’s wildly popular High Line, Skycycle will transform the city’s defunct, overground train lines to create a network of lanes that bicyclists can use, allowing them to bypass the overcrowded — and highly dangerous — Barclays Cycle Superhighway. (Sounds like an A+ idea to us!) Exterior Architecture has proposed the idea to London Mayor Boris Johnson, an avid biker himself, who is seeking an alternative infrastructure to accommodate the increase in cyclists around the city. Read more!
Users would access the Skycycle with their regular Oyster transportation cards to enjoy a car-, pedestrian-, and bus-free environment that will transport them to and from their destinations, within the same time as the underground tube.
The project has been introduced to the leaders of London’s transportation system and is awaiting further interest by the city.
