Nothing turns a fab office drab quite like a cheesy suspended ceiling. Thankfully, the brainiacs at Alarcon+Asociados have developed a new construction system called Holedeck that not only eliminates hanging cables, wires, and tubes, but also saves up to 20 inches of space. Perfect for giant buildings like hospitals and schools, this new concrete system allows for a six-story building to fit into a five-story volume. Read more!

The voided concrete slabs can be pierced throughout to hold ventilation pipes and building wires. Even the modular pieces are interchangeable, making it easier to plan spaces and allowing for more freedom for pillar placement. The first building to ever use the new technology is an office for the research and development department of Logytel in Spain. The building, which is currently under construction, may be the first of many innovative spaces to come.
