LYHTY: A Glowing Tent That’s As Cute As Its Name
October 5, 2012
Created by Helsinki-based designer Erkko Aarti, LYHTY (say it out loud: light-y) is a pocket tent structure designed to brighten up those long short Finnish winter days. Displayed at this year’s Habitare 2012, LYHTY can be placed in public spaces, providing respite for any commuter suffering from seasonal affective disorder. Read more.
LYHTY is a play on “lantern”, which is more than fitting considering the tent is basically one very large, very glowing lantern. The light that penetrates the fabric shell casts shadows of the visible, although slightly obscured, steel frame, an obscuring the architects say adds “depth to the surface”.
