Book Giveaway: “Contemporary Classical: The Architecture of Andrew Skurman”
September 19, 2012
Last week, we invited readers to enter our “Designing Olympics“ book giveaway. The deadline was last night, and we received a great response, flooding our email accounts with submissions from around the globe. Entrants were required to answer this question: “As some know, architectural competition was once a part of the Olympic Games. What architect won a gold medal in architecture for his design of the Olympic Stadium used in the same Olympics Games?” For anyone still wondering, the answer is: Jan Wils, who won the gold medal in architecture for his design of the 1928 Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam.
Today, we randomly selected one winner: Luke Giaccio of Washington, D.C. Congratulations, Luke! Your book is in the mail.
For those who didn’t win this time around, don’t fret: We’ve just launched another book giveway! This time we’re offering a monograph featuring the work of the “unabashed classicist” Andrew Skurman. “Contemporary Classical: The Architecture of Andrew Skurman” is filled with photography and watercolor studies of houses, further illuminating each detail with “images and plans of their historical precedents taken from the architect’s vast library.” Read how to enter!
For a chance to win the book, please include the answer to the following question, in addition to your name and mailing address, in an email to editorial@architizer.com. The deadline is this Thursday, September 20, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (New York time).
Question: In line with the Classical style, English-born Benjamin Henry Latrobe is often noted as the father of American architecture. In what city did America’s first architect design the country’s first Roman Catholic Cathedral?
