Editor’s Pick: “Art Warehouse” In Greece By A31 Architecture
September 18, 2012
Building: Art Warehouse in Boeotia
Architect: A31 Architecture
Location: Dilesi, Greece
Why We Like This:
Designed as an “art warehouse” for an (loner?) artist, this small workshop packs a lot of visual impact for its small(ish) size. Resting mere meters away from the main house, the structure incorporates the surrounding landscape through its tall north-facing glazed portal, which pulls in the site’s olive, oleander, and cypress trees inside. The house is wrapped in a shell constructed of reinforced concrete, which is embellished with lines left by the formwork. Concrete slats were removed to create the side windows, which are designed to correlate with the sun’s trajectory. The same concrete blocks were later repurposed as plinths on which the artist’s sculptures were displayed. Read the complete project description here.
