World’s Skinniest House Now Under Construction In Warsaw

September 18, 2012

Jakub Szczesny from Centrala has designed the world’s thinnest house in Warsaw, Poland. Keret House—named after Szczesny’s favorite Israeli writer and poet, Etgar Keret—will stretch 47 inches at its widest point and 27 inches at its narrowest. Construction reportedly began this month. Wedged between two tall city buildings, the dwelling will be used as an artist’s residence and art installation space. Read More.

The tiny home will be a simple steel frame finished with plywood. It will be insulated with sandwich panels and styrofoam covered with concrete cloth painted white. Remote control stairs will flatten against a wall and pop out when needed for use. Electricity will be provided by nearby buildings and the home will use an independent, boat-inspired water and sewage system separate from the city.

The house’s unique shape aims to attract artists, writers, and other young innovators who will use the tiny space as a creative think tank and work area.
