Santa Fe Institutions To Honor The Late Ricardo Legorreta

Since the passing of Ricardo Legorreta last year, the architect’s legacy continues to loom large in Santa Fe. The Santa Fe University of Art and Design (SFUAD), along with the Santa Fe Art Institute (SFAI), have planned a tribute event called “Ricardo Legorreta and Santa Fe” to honor and acknowledge the man who helped shape the aesthetic for the New Mexican city. On October 19th, the city will kick off a weekend of Legorreta-themed events.Visitors can enjoy lectures, films, and tours of Legorreta’s greatest works, including SFUAD’s Visual Arts Center, the SFAI, Thornburg Investment Management building, and the Zocalo Condominiums. An exhibition of Legorreta’s drawings and models will also be on view at the art institute’s galleries. Victor Legorreta, the late architect’s son, will make a special appearance to talk candidly about his father’s work and legacy throughout Santa Fe and parts of Mexico.
Ricardo Legorreta was awarded the UIA Gold Medal in 1999, the AIA Gold Medal in 2000, and the Praemium Imperiale in 2011.
