Editor’s Pick: An Illuminating Villa In Japan By TT Architects
September 11, 2012

Building: Sunset Villa
Architect: TT Architects
Location: Okayama, Japan
Why We Like This:
Built as an extension on a single-family residence, the Sunset Villa in Okayama, Japan, can best be described as a “black box” that suffered from overexposure from the western sun. To solve the problem, TT Architects created a central courtyard that acts as an eave, creating a source of illumination that buffers the interior from the bright sun. The minimalist home takes full advantage of the courtyard, with the surrounding layout including the living room, bedroom, and workspace, providing the homeowners with luxurious views and their own private landscape.
