For a couple, moving in together usually means the throwing away of beloved things and hobbies that no longer fit into their new shared lifestyle. One awesome duo in Tokyo created a home with LEVEL Architects that not only celebrated each other’s differences, but combined them into an awesome co-working space. Their his-and-hers garage that doubles as a skatepark and a piano concert hall is just the beginning! Read More.
The entire home is full of spaces that are at the same time separate yet combined. Levels are differentiated with varying ceiling heights and walls, but are always open and bright, connected by an enormous skylight that channels sunlight into all areas of the house. Sliding glass doors and patterned floorboards create a gradual transition from room to room, while contrasting use of materials create subtle boundaries within the space.
The skatepark and piano studio are located inside what would be the home’s garage. The piano is set at the back of the studio, elevated about two feet and tucked in the corner to create a stage area that is both soundproof and safe from flying skateboards. The studio floor features an incredible skate bowl that leads to the giant sliding glass wall, which opens to allow the skatepark to spill out into the nearby driveway and beautiful piano notes to flow through the neighborhood.
