Puff! The Inflatable Metal DIY Stool
September 6, 2012
Israeli designer Moran Barmaper has unveiled the latest model in here series of inflatable metal furniture–yes, you read that correctly. Puff! is a playful object that sees an inflated metal seat perched atop wooden stilts. Designed as a series of DIY stools, no glue or screws are used in the construction of the piece. Read more.
Barmaper has perfected the blown metal technique, creating a variety of inflatable furniture pieces, including the “Yayu table”, a circular side table supported on three slanted legs, and the “Dan bench”, a crescent shaped seat for two. For her latest piece, the “Puff! stool”, Moran inflates the metal seat using just a bike pump. As the seat inflates the metal joints tighten, affixing the seat to the wooden legs without the need for glue or screws. While the stool itself resembles an almost comically primitive assemblage–a miniature flying saucer anchored to timber legs–the designer’s innovative fabrication technique is nothing short of ingenious.
