Foaming Installation Spews Suds All Over Parisian Monastery

September 7, 2012

Monaco-born artist Michel Blazy creates sculptures and installations out of everyday objects, often delivering an entertaining discourse on the brevity of life and fragile beauty.  The artist’s latest installation, entitled “Bouquet Final”, has found a home in the medieval monastery College des Bernardins in Paris, filling the austere surroundings with flowing quantities of ever-growing foam masses. Blazy’s use of foam explores the inherent ephemeral qualities of the substance, a stark contrast to the hard stone architecture of the space. Read more.

Made of soap and water spewed out by moving engines, Blazy’s foam installation melts as the engines are turned off, only to regenerate the next day. The free flowing foam grows and changes, frothing in all many of unexpected ways, to the delight of the viewer. Blazy’s foaming structure explores “the uncertainties of our condition” through an every changing flowing mass. This is not Michel Blazy’s first time working with the soapy medium; five years ago, the artist exhibited a display entitled Fontaine de mousse as at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris that first brought to the world the art of suds.
