Magazine Hanger Chair A Waiting Room Panacea!

July 17, 2012

Waiting rooms are generally terrible places filled with screaming children and a palpable, though abstract anxiety stemming from the anticipation of whatever it is you’re waiting for, probably a dentist or something. These agitations are balanced by the presence of magazines in abundance, of all kinds, often in multiple languages. But all the gossip rags, digests, and quarterlies create more problems (so much complaining today!): arranging magazines on tables causes them to become jumbled with bent corners and ripped pages, while stacking them invites all sorts of kerkuffle and foofaraw as uneasy patients rile through the lot of them.

Seung Han Lee, a Brighton-based designer who describes himself as “a unique talent with unlimited potential”, has come up with the product to satisfy all of our waiting room needs. The Magazine Hanger Chair has a magazine rack built in; all kerfuffle is kept to a minimum as the reader-to-be can simply reach down and grab the volume of their choice. Elegant in stainless steel, the chair might not be ideal for long periods of time in terms of seating comfort, but the ready (and heady) presence of so much reading material makes that a non-issue. Unless the only magazines your dentist keeps are old Reader’s Digests.
