Pop-Up Ads, Coming to a Suburb Near You!

March 30, 2012

The Internet. We love it, and we live by it (some of us do, at least). But everyone, even the tweetiest of tweeters, reaches a threshold when it comes to dipping into this vast and infinite pool of information. Though we are now able to share experiences with others around the world, we are also faced with a constant excess of information to process. It is a troubling sign of the times, then, that an advertising firm that offers to paint residential homes with advertisements in exchange for paying off mortgages is met with thousands of eager responses from people pleading to have their domains covered in domain names.

The firm Adzookie.com launched the concept last year, offering commercial billboard makeovers for homeowners struggling to pay off mortgages at the height of the financial crisis. According to the Pop-Up City, Adzookie, which has since inexplicably changed its name to Brainiacs from Mars, has received some 33,000 applications, many of which came in the form of pleas and photos posted on the firm’s Facebook page. Photos showing the first house, painted in garish green and orange and plastered with oversized social media buttons as well as a window appliqué of an alien, received a swarm of positive comments and requests to be next. The tremendous response literally paints a warped new image of the American dream, one that struggles to stay alive in the wake of mass foreclosures.
