Grow Your Own Micro-Garden
March 15, 2012

The Ariane trellis by Emilie Colin Garros grows with the plants grafted onto it. The design is comprised of radial modules which can be attached to one another either serially or as accretions in response to the growth rate of the host vegetation. The modules are thin and lightweight and can be fixed to existing walls. They can be arranged in any pattern, with the plant’s growth conforming accordingly to the trellis composition, thereby proposing an alternative to wall art while speculating on the nature of “micro-gardens for new urban landscapes.” Garros received the 2012 Ariane received the 2012 Jardins Jardin Innovation Award for her trellis, which will be exhibited at the Tuileries Gardens in Paris starting in June.
