Architectural Rorschach
March 1, 2012
We’ll start this morning off on a trippy note, with artist Esther Hunziker’s kaleidoscopic interactive online artworks, spotted on Rhizome today. Hunziker has taken her photographs of what appear to be architectural inkblots and sent them spinning into oblivion, dividing and multiplying in empty virtual space to the score of a meditative drone. Her imagery defies architectural logic; without a top or bottom, these autonomous ‘buildings’ become baseless, roofless geometric capsules, crippling any attempt to orient oneself in illusionistic space. The viewer can only slow down, accelerate or reorient the direction of their interminable growth and simply enjoy the ride.
