Putting Art in the Walls
September 26, 2011
Core77 recently revealed an interesting new proposal by Czech architect Petr Janda to transform the walls of Prague’s Vltava River waterfront into gallery spaces. The project is an extension of the existing (A)VOID Gallery, which has already begun hosting art installations and cultural events along the waterfront promenade. One part of the proposal seeks to install large, circular windows made of acrylic glass in front of the vaulted spaces in the waterfront walls. Click through for more!
Appearing like portholes along the Vltava riverscape, these large circular glass pieces can be opened vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, allowing many different methods of entry and multiple possibilities for exhibition design. The acrylic glass, which is similar to the glass used in aquariums, can likewise be easily replaced with variations with different levels of transparency and of different patterns and colors.
Conceived by architect Petr Janda of Prague-based studio Brainwork and organized with Dvojka sobe, a civic association focused on revitalizing public spaces, the project will tastefully blend new and old, bringing attention to the wonderful spaces of the city’s infrastructure while opening up possibilities for the city’s contemporary art scene.
