Coming Soon: The High Line Rink!
July 20, 2011

Roller Rink at the High Line Sponsored by UNIQLO
As if the High Line couldn’t get any more fun–really, who doesn’t love New York’s only elevated park?–there will soon be an 8000 square foot outdoor roller-skating rink added to the mix. The rink, which will host nighttime DJ’s and themed events, will be set under the terminating bend of the High Line’s second leg, at the corner of West 30th Street and 10th Avenue.
The High Line Rink is part of an initiative that seeks to make use of the site’s 40,000-square-foot temporary public plaza, appropriately named The Lot, which at present is home to a popular outdoor beer and wine bar, as well as a number of specialty food trucks. The rink is sponsored by UNIQLO and was designed by James Corner Field Operations with Diller Scofidio + Renfro, with input from HWKN, who had a hand in The Lot’s inflatable “Rainbow City” installation. Orange and white construction barriers delineate the limits of the rink, whose floor will be patterned with a white, distorted grid-motif. Seating will be arranged outside the skating circle, while a glowing set of cubes will house UNIQLO shops. The High Line Rink will be open between July 28 and September 26.
