Daniel Libeskind has received the 144th annual AIANY award for his involvement in the planning of the World Trade Center. A statement issued by AIANY describes Libeskind’s buildings as “address[ing] the cultural context of their communities while inspiring new understanding of the importance of design to go beyond the expected.” Libeskind joins the company of past winners Mies van der Rohe, Toshiko Mori, and David Childs. An eco-car prototype developed by the Cambridge Design Partnership is capable of traveling 1,300 miles on a single gallon of diesel. The car achieves this feat with an oxygen concentrator, low-friction tires and Cambridge Design Partnership’s ‘Go’ system, which provides real-time GPS tracking information, monitors the car’s performance and regulates the engine to maximize fuel efficiency. The prototype debuted at this year’s Mileage Marathon Cambridge and was drived by a lucky 11-year old student. [via Gizomodo]
