New Museum to Get Projection-Mapped
April 28, 2011
We know you’ve been following along with news from the Festival of Ideas for the New City (in fact, over a hundred of you entered our ticket giveaway here and on Twitter last week!). So you’ll be excited to know that artist Mia Pearlman (pictured above) — along with Vito Acconci, photographer Marilyn Minter, and our pals from SOFTlab — will be featured in a performance played out on the façade of the New Museum on Saturday, May 7.
Read more about the Let Us Make Cake installation and what you can expect next week:
Let Us Make Cake is a collaborative projection directed by Nuit Blanche New York and Light Harvest Studios to be premiered on the façade of the New Museum. Dozens of artists were asked to interact with scale models of the New Museum ranging in size from 11 inches to 11 feet, embracing the museum as both a canvas and vessel. The resulting footage will be projection-mapped onto the New Museum, marking the first time projection has been used to animate the entire 174-foot facade.
Simultaneous city-wide performances in light, sound, performance, and projection will take place at the historic St. Patrick’s Cathedral,NoLIta’s Mulberry Street, and Times Square.
Speaking of the Festival of Ideas, Architizer is helping Stylepark curate an exhibition for Audi Urban Future at Openhouse Gallery (running May 7-9). We’re looking for helpers to man the exhibition and help install — small stipend and access to some amazing architects included, of course! More details here.
