Angelenos, Rejoice!
April 7, 2010
Our Los Angeles event was over two weeks ago and we miss the sunshine and sunny dispositions of Los Angelenos. Thankfully, we received word about two great doings in the LA-area that confirm the architecture culture is still bubbling like the La Brea Tarpits on the West Coast.
The first is the AIA/LA Spring House Tours.
This year, four architecturally-distinguished residences in Venice, CA are opening their respective doors for you to meander and ogle at their level of design finesse.
You can have a chance to experience the Goodman Residence by Abramson Teiger Architects, Hover House 3 by Glen Irani Architects, Gelner Residence by Tighe Architecture, and Architizer member firm Bestor Architecture‘s project Floating Bungalow, featured on Architizer.

The other exciting doing happens to be a competition launched by our good friends at LA Forum. The Dingbats 2.0 competition is a call to redesign the iconic dingbat apartment typology that is pervasive in the Los Angeles basin.
The Los Angeles Forum for Architecture and Urban Design proposes DINGBAT 2.0, an open, single-stage, international design competition, reconsidering Los Angeles’ ubiquitous dingbat apartment building for the 21st century. All designers, architects, artists, engineers, students, and other interested parties are fully eligible for participation in this competition. The competition will address the typology of the Dingbat at both the scale of the individual building (are they to be retrofitted? replaced?), as well as the larger urban scale of an entire city block (re-zoning, anyone?). Three separate sites in three distinct Los Angeles neighborhoods will be considered for the competition.
They have assembled an amazing jury including Barbara Bestor, Neil Denari, Teddy Cruz, Dana Cuff and more to be announced soon.
