Populous Completes Stadium for 2012 London Games

April 1, 2011

Following the path set by the Olympic Velodrome, yet another remarkable project for the London Games has been completed ahead of schedule and allegedly £10 million below the original estimate. Corporate sports architecture/contracting team Populous has delivered the much-anticipated “world’s most environmentally friendly Olympic Stadium” in just over 1,000 days.

Serving as the main venue for the 2012 London Games, the stadium will seat 80,000, including 55,000 temporary seats. The venue, which covers 40 acres in total, will then transform to a humble 25,000-seat venue after the 2012 Games to sustainably serve the needs of the local community (without a ski slope on its roof).

Click through for more images and a design video of the new stadium.
