NYFW: Polka-Dot Buildings
February 15, 2011
Architects aren’t typically entrenched in the airtight schedule of New York Fashion Week (London, Paris, and Milan: you’re up next). But any observant design buff is likely to pick up on the heightened ratio of well-shod men and women prancing around the city from DS+R‘s Lincoln Center to the Meatpacking District on down to Soho.
In a twist on sartorial convention, our man-on-the-ground photographer Paul Clemence snapped a pair of well-dressed buildings. One is uptown, and one is downtown, though both are outfitted in polka dots (not just for spring, you know). Take a look:
DOWNTOWN: DreamDowntown hotel by Frank Fusaro of Handel Architects. The hotel, situated next to The Maritime, features north and south facades that differ in both materials and pattern though both incorporate the circle motif.

UPTOWN: A condo tower on West 96th Street shows its (polka) dots. The building was designed by New York City-based Arctangent.
