Life Edited: A multi-room Studio

November 10, 2010

Jordan Parnass Digital Architecture, East Village Studio, New York, New York.

In the past month we’ve been looking at micro-design as part of our coverage of LifeEdited, the brainchild of Treehugger-founder Graham Hill.

New Yorkers, perhaps more so than the inhabitants of any other city (besides Tokyo?), have made an art of living in small spaces. Some do it better than others, and today we’re looking at one of the better ones. Brooklyn-based architect Jordan Parnass‘ East Village Studio is warm and graceful, despite the intense efficiency of the puzzle-like design.

LifeEdited is a crowd-sourced design competition soliciting proposals for the renovation of Hill’s tiny (420 square feet!) NYC apartment. The brief is about promote the“ruthless editing of your possessions, digitizing your life, transforming furniture and ultra-low energy living.” The winner of the competition will be renovating Hill’s apartment next year.

Head over to the LifeEdited site to check out the super-interesting brief and start brainstorming. Meanwhile, we’ve got photos and diagrams of a studio renovation in the East Village that seems just impossible: Jordan Parnass Digital Architecture has transformed a tiny studio into a multi-program, multi-level, work/live gem. Check out the following images:
